Nanotechnology
Picture a world in which water shortages no longer exist, where we have the capability to purify even the most polluted water. Try to imagine computers with processing speeds exponentially faster than any we have previously witnessed or buildings constructed from compounds hundreds of times more resilient than steel. This is what many researchers consider the impact of engineering of the future, all of which is considered possible through an emerging cross-disciplinary science called nanotechnology.

Stem Cell Research
Stem cells are the future of healthcare. Their discovery is one of the signal moments in the evolution of medicine, and the race is on to unlock their potential. Scientists are hard at work learning what makes stem cells grow, how to affect their development and, ultimately, how to turn them into therapies for a host of diseases. The word for this research is "urgent." And nowhere is it more apparent than at the University of Connecticut.

Fuel Cells
Our program in fuel cell technology is an excellent example of UConn at work in the state’s and the nation’s service. Collaborating with the federal government, Connecticut industry, and international partners, UConn is now a leader in this critical field of investigation. The work of our engineers and scientists promises to unleash safe, clean, virtually limitless sources of energy, enhancing national energy independence. Equally important for a state flagship university, UConn research in this area will make a major, lasting contribution to our state’s knowledge-based economy.
